1  My breath⁷³⁰⁷ is corrupt,²²⁵⁴ my days³¹¹⁷ are extinct,²¹⁹³ the graves⁶⁹¹³ are ready for me.

2  Are there not³⁸⁰⁸ mockers²⁰⁴⁹ with⁵⁹⁷⁸ me? and doth not mine eye⁵⁸⁶⁹ continue³⁸⁸⁵ in their provocation?⁴⁷⁸⁴

3  Lay down⁷⁷⁶⁰ now,⁴⁹⁹⁴ put me in a surety⁶¹⁴⁸ with⁵⁹⁷³ thee; who⁴³¹⁰ is he¹⁹³¹ that will strike⁸⁶²⁸ hands³⁰²⁷ with me?

4  For³⁵⁸⁸ thou hast hid⁶⁸⁴⁵ their heart³⁸²⁰ from understanding:^{4480 7922} therefore^{3651 5921} shalt thou not³⁸⁰⁸ exalt⁷³¹¹ them.

5  He that speaketh⁵⁰⁴⁶ flattery²⁵⁰⁶ to his friends,⁷⁴⁵³ even the eyes⁵⁸⁶⁹ of his children¹¹²¹ shall fail.³⁶¹⁵

6  He hath made³³²² me also a byword⁴⁹¹⁴ of the people;⁵⁹⁷¹ and formerly⁶⁴⁴⁰ I was¹⁹⁶¹ as a tabret.⁸⁶¹¹

7  Mine eye⁵⁸⁶⁹ also is dim³⁵⁴³ by reason of sorrow,^{4480 3708} and all³⁶⁰⁵ my members³³³⁸ are as a shadow.⁶⁷³⁸

8  Upright³⁴⁷⁷ men shall be astonished⁸⁰⁷⁴ at⁵⁹²¹ this,²⁰⁶³ and the innocent⁵³⁵⁵ shall stir up himself⁵⁷⁸² against⁵⁹²¹ the hypocrite.²⁶¹¹

9  The righteous⁶⁶⁶² also shall hold²⁷⁰ on his way,¹⁸⁷⁰ and he that hath clean²⁸⁸⁹ hands³⁰²⁷ shall be stronger and stronger.^{3254 555}

10  But¹⁹⁹ as for you all,³⁶⁰⁵ do ye return,⁷⁷²⁵ and come⁹³⁵ now:⁴⁹⁹⁴ for I cannot³⁸⁰⁸ find⁴⁶⁷² one wise²⁴⁵⁰ man among you.

11  My days³¹¹⁷ are past,⁵⁶⁷⁴ my purposes²¹⁵⁴ are broken off,⁵⁴²³ even the thoughts⁴¹⁸⁰ of my heart.³⁸²⁴

12  They change⁷⁷⁶⁰ the night³⁹¹⁵ into day:³¹¹⁷ the light²¹⁶ is short⁷¹³⁸ because^{4480 6440} of darkness.²⁸²²

13  If⁵¹⁸ I wait,⁶⁹⁶⁰ the grave⁷⁵⁸⁵ is mine house:¹⁰⁰⁴ I have made⁷⁵⁰² my bed³³²⁶ in the darkness.²⁸²²

14  I have said⁷¹²¹ to corruption,⁷⁸⁴⁵ Thou⁸⁵⁹ art my father:¹ to the worm,⁷⁴¹⁵ Thou art my mother,⁵¹⁷ and my sister.²⁶⁹

15  And where³⁴⁶ is now⁶⁴⁵ my hope?⁸⁶¹⁵ as for my hope,⁸⁶¹⁵ who⁴³¹⁰ shall see⁷⁷⁸⁹ it?

16  They shall go down³³⁸¹ to the bars⁹⁰⁵ of the pit,⁷⁵⁸⁵ when⁵¹⁸ our rest⁵¹⁸³ together³¹⁶² is in⁵⁹²¹ the dust.⁶⁰⁸³

1 ὀλέκομαι πνεύματι φερόμενος δέομαι δὲ ταφῆς καὶ οὐ τυγχάνω

2 λίσσομαι κάμνων καὶ τί ποιήσας

3 ἔκλεψαν δέ μου τὰ ὑπάρχοντα ἀλλότριοι τίς ἐστιν οὗτος τῇ χειρί μου συνδεθήτω

4 ὅτι καρδίαν αὐτῶν ἔκρυψας ἀπὸ φρονήσεως διὰ τοῦτο οὐ μὴ ὑψώσῃς αὐτούς

5 τῇ μερίδι ἀναγγελεῖ κακίας ὀφθαλμοὶ δέ μου ἐφ᾽ υἱοῖς ἐτάκησαν

6 ἔθου δέ με θρύλημα ἐν ἔθνεσιν γέλως δὲ αὐτοῖς ἀπέβην

7 πεπώρωνται γὰρ ἀπὸ ὀργῆς οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου πεπολιόρκημαι μεγάλως ὑπὸ πάντων

8 θαῦμα ἔσχεν ἀληθινοὺς ἐπὶ τούτῳ δίκαιος δὲ ἐπὶ παρανόμῳ ἐπανασταίη

9 σχοίη δὲ πιστὸς τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ὁδόν καθαρὸς δὲ χεῖρας ἀναλάβοι θάρσος

10 οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ πάντες ἐρείδετε καὶ δεῦτε δή οὐ γὰρ εὑρίσκω ἐν ὑμῖν ἀληθές

11 αἱ ἡμέραι μου παρῆλθον ἐν βρόμῳ ἐρράγη δὲ τὰ ἄρθρα τῆς καρδίας μου

12 νύκτα εἰς ἡμέραν ἔθηκαν φῶς ἐγγὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου σκότους

13 ἐὰν γὰρ ὑπομείνω ᾅδης μου ὁ οἶκος ἐν δὲ γνόφῳ ἔστρωταί μου ἡ στρωμνή

14 θάνατον ἐπεκαλεσάμην πατέρα μου εἶναι μητέρα δέ μου καὶ ἀδελφὴν σαπρίαν

15 ποῦ οὖν μου ἔτι ἐστὶν ἡ ἐλπίς ἦ τὰ ἀγαθά μου ὄψομαι

16 ἦ μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ εἰς ᾅδην καταβήσονται ἢ ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἐπὶ χώματος καταβησόμεθα

‎6 ‏וְֽ֭הִצִּגַנִי לִמְשֹׁ֣ל עַמִּ֑ים וְתֹ֖פֶת לְפָנִ֣ים אֶֽהְיֶֽה׃

‎7 ‏וַתֵּ֣כַהּ מִכַּ֣עַשׂ עֵינִ֑י וִֽיצֻרַ֖י כַּצֵּ֣ל כֻּלָּֽם׃

‎8 ‏יָשֹׁ֣מּוּ יְשָׁרִ֣ים עַל־זֹ֑את וְ֝נָקִ֗י עַל־חָנֵ֥ף יִתְעֹרָֽר׃

‎9 ‏וְיֹאחֵ֣ז צַדִּ֣יק דַּרְכּ֑וֹ וּֽטֳהָר־יָ֝דַ֗יִם יֹסִ֥יף אֹֽמֶץ׃

‎10 ‏וְֽאוּלָ֗ם כֻּלָּ֣ם תָּ֭שֻׁבוּ וּבֹ֣אוּ נָ֑א וְלֹֽא־אֶמְצָ֖א בָכֶ֣ם חָכָֽם׃

‎11 ‏יָמַ֣י עָ֭בְרוּ זִמֹּתַ֣י נִתְּק֑וּ מ֖וֹרָשֵׁ֣י לְבָבִֽי׃

‎12 ‏לַ֭יְלָה לְי֣וֹם יָשִׂ֑ימוּ א֝֗וֹר קָר֥וֹב מִפְּנֵי־חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃

‎13 ‏אִם־אֲ֭קַוֶּה שְׁא֣וֹל בֵּיתִ֑י בַּ֝חֹ֗שֶׁךְ רִפַּ֥דְתִּי יְצוּעָֽי׃

‎14 ‏לַשַּׁ֣חַת קָ֭רָאתִי אָ֣בִי אָ֑תָּה אִמִּ֥י וַ֝אֲחֹתִ֗י לָֽרִמָּֽה׃

‎15 ‏וְ֭אַיֵּה אֵפ֣וֹ תִקְוָתִ֑י וְ֝תִקְוָתִ֗י מִ֣י יְשׁוּרֶֽנָּה׃

‎16 ‏בַּדֵּ֣י שְׁאֹ֣ל תֵּרַ֑דְנָה אִם־יַ֖חַד עַל־עָפָ֣ר נָֽחַת׃ ס

Vul

1 [Spiritus meus attenuabitur;
dies mei breviabuntur:
et solum mihi superest sepulchrum.

2 Non peccavi,
et in amaritudinibus moratur oculus meus.

3 Libera me, Domine, et pone me juxta te,
et cujusvis manus pugnet contra me.

4 Cor eorum longe fecisti a disciplina:
propterea non exaltabuntur.

5 Prædam pollicetur sociis,
et oculi filiorum ejus deficient.

6 Posuit me quasi in proverbium vulgi,
et exemplum sum coram eis.

7 Caligavit ab indignatione oculus meus,
et membra mea quasi in nihilum redacta sunt.

8 Stupebunt justi super hoc,
et innocens contra hypocritam suscitabitur.

9 Et tenebit justus viam suam,
et mundis manibus addet fortitudinem.

10 Igitur omnes vos convertimini, et venite,
et non inveniam in vobis ullum sapientem.

11 Dies mei transierunt;
cogitationes meæ dissipatæ sunt,
torquentes cor meum.

12 Noctem verterunt in diem,
et rursum post tenebras spero lucem.

13 Si sustinuero, infernus domus mea est,
et in tenebris stravi lectulum meum.

14 Putredini dixi: Pater meus es;
Mater mea, et soror mea, vermibus.

15 Ubi est ergo nunc præstolatio mea?
et patientiam meam quis considerat?

16 In profundissimum infernum descendent omnia mea:
putasne saltem ibi erit requies mihi?]
